World Children's Day
On Monday we celebrated World Children's Day and watched a video about how our actions are impacting the rest of the world. We particularly enjoyed a song which prompted us to think about litter and the importance of recycling. Through our play we talked about the importance of taking care of our environment. Outside we carried out an investigation to see the impact of oil and litter on clean water. We found that it was really hard to clean up the pollution and decided that the bin was the best place for our litter. We used the trikes to think about choosing cycling as an alternative to using the car and talked about how in the future cars will run on electric which is a cleaner form of energy. The children also took part in a clean up to sweep up autumn leaves which can be used as compost. Indoors at dough table and puzzle tables we talked about different animals found around the world and our responsibility to care for them. We built our own lego house and talked about how to save electric and used the writing area for drawing our message to love the world.
The children took home an energy challenge as part of their home activities which should have prompted everyone to try to play their part saving energy.
All our work linked to Rights Respecting Article 24
Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must work to provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food and a clean environment so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.
