Shape and Space Week
Primary 1 have been exploring 3d shapes. We used a circular balloon to demonstrate how 2d shapes are “flat” and 3d shapes are “fat.” The children watched as the flat balloon inflated and became a 3d shape called a sphere. In our magic feely bag the children saw how flat 2d shapes changed into fat 3d shapes. We looked closely at the shapes to find out more about cubes, cuboid, spheres , pyramids, cones and cylinders. Children worked together to investigate the shapes completing a number of open ended challenges. They used 3d shapes in dough to find what 2d prints each face made. They matched objects to shapes, sorted shapes and problem solved to build cubes and cuboids. They were able to identify which shapes were best for building!
