How do polar bears keep warm?
28th Feb 2024
Today we read a book called “Ice Bear” it was full of interesting facts. We were surprised to hear that a layer of fat four fingers deep below the bear’s skin is one way it keeps warm. We decided to test this out as not everyone believed this. Using baking fat and some plastic gloves we made a fat (blubber) glove. Children took turns to place their hands in ice with one hand in the blubber glove and one hand bare. They then recorded what they felt. Our results proved that extra fat would help to keep polar bears warm.
