As part of our whole school initiative on “Connections” for British Science Week,Room 1 are focusing on sowing seeds to grow our own food.We welcomed Anna from AJ’s farm shop and Leanne from Curragh View Farm to share how they sustainable grow crops and rear animals for food free from additives. Their products are available locally which is a eco friendly option providing the opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint.
Room 1 enjoyed sowing some bean seeds with Anna using our poly tunnel and used this experience to write instructions to remind us how to do this for other seeds. This was a great link to our new Fairytale “Jack and the Beanstalk.” Thank you to both of our visitors for a great morning.
We have also become scientists with the help of our student teacher to observe,predict and record how our bean seeds will grow.
