Room 5 boys and girls are learning about FairTrade and how some farmers in the world are not earning enough money to meet their basic needs. We discussed the difference between wants and needs, the need to budget and best value meant. We sorted cards into what was a want and what was a need and which needs we would have to pay for.
We learnt about a lady who is a cocoa farmer in Ivory Coast in Africa and how she earns 74p per day. By joining the FairTrade Union/Cooperation, she earns a fairer wage which will allow her to send her children to school and better meet her family’s needs.
