Eco Day

19th Nov 2024

Room 1 loved the opportunity to wear green today to support Eco Day raising awareness of the importance of caring for our environment.
We began our day with road safety messages from the Brake Society which had us thinking about our Road Safety Superheroes. The children were able to suggest lots of these before watching a short video clip. Afterwards they worked hard to draw and name their own Road Safety Superheroes on a postcard to take home with road safety reminders.

After break we met the ladies from Mid Ulster District Council who introduced us to a recycling game. This really got us to think carefully about which bin we should use. We were surprised to find so many things that can be recycled in our blue bins. We learnt that brown bin waste is made into compost and that black bin waste can usefully be converted into energy.

Following this,we worked with partners to remove some litter from the football pitch. The children worked cooperatively using the litter pickers to remove litter and protect our local wildlife.

We look forward to using recycled materials later in the week to make some junk models. Children should now be able to put into practice what they learnt today helping sort waste at home. Well done everyone.😊
