Pirate Training Day

20th May 2019

Room 1 enjoyed an interesting trip to the seaside today and met Captain Grey Beard who wanted us to train to be his crew! We had to listen very carefully to his instructions.  Our morning began with pirate games in the park.We made a compass and then used compass directions to help find the Captain’s treasure. Before heading back to base we had a sing song. In the hall we played some pirate games which had us scrubbing the decks and completing obstacle courses which finished when we burst the Captain’s cannonballs ( these were really balloons). The Captain told us that his ship had sunk when it took in too much water.  His crew mate Fiona demonstrated how things float and sink she showed us how changing the shape of a ball of plasticine could make it float. We predicted what might happen to a range of items and were surprises when the egg floated in salty water! After lunch we headed to the beach to design a new ship for the Captain. A big thank you must go to Caragh and the School at the Sea for making this a memorable trip to Ballygally.
